... ‘Makeda highly qualified’ *

GOVERNMENT is disheartened by “attempts to discredit” this country's new head of mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), Makeda Antoine, whom Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young yesterday described as “highly qualified”.

Speaking at yesterday's post-Cabinet briefing at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann's, Young said Antoine's appointment was a result of the Government's — and particularly Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley's — decision to give a very highly-qualified young person a chance.

The appointment of Antoine has caused anxiety as the post is considered one of the heaviest and most technical ambassadorial positions.
