Probe into Arima property purchase *


An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the purchase of a property in Arima by the former People's Partnership administration.

According to Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young, the former government bought the property for use as the Motor Vehicle Authority Access Centre at a cost of $27 million, $9 million more than it was valued, despite warnings from the Property and Real Estate Services Division (PRESD) that the building was structurally unsound and unfit for occupation.

Speaking at yesterday's post-Cabinet news conference at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair, Young said the issue was raised last month by the Ministry of Works and Transport which requested that an investigation take place.
