Going after molesters*


“WAR on sexual violence,” screamed the headline.
The occasion was the reporting on a most opportune conference in Guyana last week of women and their supporting sponsors.  It involved leading judicial figures of the Caribbean region, with Canada providing pivotal funding and Guyana’s Chancellor of the Judiciary playing a key role as primary host. At the core of this pace-setting initiative, when growing reports in the media inform us of a degrading social explosion of sexual harassment cases in the US, as well as notorious examples in our own region, is the reality that the time has come when a battalion of able and committed women, in co-operation with human rights and other civic bodies, if not political parties as well, should become much more actively involved.
