FINANCE Minister Colm Imbert yesterday confirmed that he denied permission to the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) to spend $3 million in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
Imbert told the Express that the money collected by NLCB is for the benefit of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
“It is a source of revenue for the Government to be used for the service of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Any money spent by the NLCB in any given year reduces the amount remitted to the Treasury.
“In the circumstances, and especially in view of our current difficult economic situation, it was felt that it was not appropriate to spend $3 million of taxpayers' funds on this event,” Imbert said.
