Roget: Offshore workers deserve better conditions *

Offshore workers risk life and limb to ensure oil and gas are properly monetised and, therefore, they deserve better working conditions, president of the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) Ancel Roget said yesterday.

Talking to the media after leading scores of offshore workers in a demonstration outside JSL International (Trinidad) Ltd, Abercromby Street, Port of Spain, Roget also said yesterday expatriate workers are taking jobs that belong to locals. Roget, the president general of the Oilfields Workers Trade Union (OWTU) was accompanied by OWTU education and research officer Ozzi Warwick, the union's chief labour relations officer Lindon Mendoza and about 100 drillers, pump attendants and mechanics.
