TWO MEN jumped into the sea and swam away when police officers approached their pirogue in Las Cuevas on Wednesday.
Police said they found firearms and ammunition in the boat, but the men escaped. It is believed they made it to shore.
The find was made on Wednesday when officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station, Santa Cruz CID and North Eastern Division Coastal Patrol Unit conducted an anti-crime exercise.
Police said they paid surveillance to a pirogue with no markings which was anchored about 100 feet from the shore.
Officers saw the two suspects on board the pirogue and approached them.
However the suspects dived into the waves. Officers said they searched the seas but the men could not be found.
Police said they found in the boat a Beretta pistol and one Israeli made high powered rifle fitted with a scope, and 33 rounds assorted ammunition.
The officers also executed search warrants at various locations in Maracas Bay and found four packets of marijuana weighing a total of 1,100 grammes.
