THIS week the focus of the United Nations was on health in the context of the HIV virus and its continuing impact on the world.
It seems that “The Virus” as it is simply referred to in poorer communities has continued to spread. As other health threats emerge, continuing education about AIDS prevention and treatment has slowed down. The most vulnerable of course are the children.
Speaking about health, I heard the Ministry of Health has decided that a new building must be erected for its head office. Hmmm. Is it that there is no other building which may be rented at a reasonable cost? There is no reason for the Ministry's headquarters to be in Port of Spain. Will it not cost more to build than to rent? Are there not buildings already rented or owned by the State which may be used?
