Prison officer going to court: Marijuana trafficking and misbehavior


A prison officer with 19 years of service is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate charged with trafficking marijuana in prison and misbehavior in public office.

The prison officer, who lives in Princes Town, was held last weekend at the Port of Spain Prison, along Frederick Street, while on duty.

According to reports, he was allegedly found with 11 packets of marijuana in his possession.

He was held at about 10p.m. on November 25, in the dormitory of the prison.

The officer, a married father of three, was taken to the Belmont Police Station where he was questioned.

Over the weekend, police investigators received instructions to charge the prison officer and to bring him to court.
