Turkish cement returns to T&T*


Less than a month before Christmas, the offloading of over 20,000 metric tonnes of imported Turkish cement has thrown the local market for the commodity into a frenzy, with consumers and builders hoping for a holiday discount, but with TCL, the domestic producer of cement, fuming about unfair trading practices. The importation of the cement cargo is believed to be a continuation of the cement price war between TCL and Rock Hard Cement, which led to significant price discounting during Carnival 2017, during which the price of a bag of cement dropped from about $55 to as low as $30 in some cases.
