NATIONAL Flour Mills (NFM) has given Government the assurance that there will no immediate increase in the price of flour.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon was given the assurance at a meeting yesterday with NFM officials, including chairman Nigel Romano and chief executive officer Kelvin Mahabir.
The meeting was held to discuss statements by Mahabir last month that the company may be forced to increase flour prices due to escalating operational costs.
In a subsequent statement to the media, the Trade Minister called the possible increase “wholly unacceptable” and said any such action would not be supported by Government at this time.
