In response to Sherene Kalloo’s Express article of December 4, headlined, “Why do abuse victims stay?”, it is not that abuse victims choose to stay. Women are stigmatised when their mates abuse them. People taunt them saying they are “not good” for whatever reasons. Victims feel embarrassed that they are abused. They start to question themselves. Neighbours blame the victims. Then the other consideration is when women (victims) leave, where do they go?
Who can they turn to?
