Tobago’s surprising history*

Last month I attended two presentations organised by the National Trust at NALIS, which shed light on some aspects of Tobago’s history that are not well known except to specialists.
The first was a lecture by my friend and colleague Dr Rita Pemberton, about the history and development of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve. This protected area constitutes the hilly “spine” across the middle of the island, occupying around two-thirds of Tobago’s land surface.
