PM surprised by rejection of Anti-Gang bill *

IT was a day of infamy in the eyes of the Prime Minister and his Government.

“What we saw (yesterday) morning, in the wee hours of the morning in the Parliament, was that (United National Congress) parliamentarians refused to use their vote to save lives and to protect communities in Trinidad and Tobago,” Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said yesterday.

Recording his disgust, disappointment and disbelief over the Opposition's refusal to vote for the Anti-Gang bill, the Prime Minister said what “Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her gang and cabal” did yesterday was even worse than the Section 34 fiasco.

The Prime Minister and the Attorney General held a news conference at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann's, in which they detailed the road to the bill's defeat, noting that every single clause had been agreed to and consented to in committee, before the final vote when the axe surprisingly fell.
