The new year might be upon us, but it is the same old news for those paying close attention to the state of the economy.
Coming off what some have considered the worst Christmas season ever, several retailers in north, south and central Trinidad over the last few weeks have complained about slow sales. Retailers have said the usual last-minute rush just before Christmas to purchase items just did not happen.
According to Chaguanas mayor Gopaul Boodhan and president of Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Vishnu Charran, the sluggish economy being experienced will be the trend into the new year.
They are not the only ones that are predicting this for 2018.
