Vulgarity draws the crowds*

Much has been said and written about Massive Gosein’s song.
When the words that are deemed offensive—“Rowlee Mudda Count”—are read, there can be no objection to the written word. When the words are sung, however, the mind conveys a different image of the actual written word. This is largely due to the fact that imbedded in the psyche of our people is a culture of vulgarity.
Vulgarity dominates our thoughts and actions. There is vulgarity in chut­ney. There is vulgarity in calypso. There is vulga­rity in Carnival.
