...former Windies coach to take charge of Afghanistan

FORMER WI COACH: Phil Simmons.

Phil Simmons will take over the reins as the new head coach of Afghanistan. The former West Indies coach replaces former India batsman Lalchand Rajput, who held the position for just three months before his contract was terminated by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
Simmons, whose contract runs till next year’s World Cup, will formally assume his new duties from next week Monday when he joins the Afghanistan squad in Dubai as they continue preparation for the impending One Day International and Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe in Sharjah next month. The former West Indies opener was one of the three shortlisted candidates and it is believed his experience and success as head coach with Ireland and the Caribbean team swayed the decision by the ACB in his favour.
