IDB: T&T needs more 4G competitors*

Trinidad and Tobago has the highest percentage of homes with Internet access in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), but is woefully still short of the average of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

The information is from an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) study by Joan Prats Cabrera and Pau Puig Gabarro, released last week in Washington. With just above 60 per cent of Trinidadians and Tobagonians having Internet access, this country leads the LAC pack.

However, among the IDB study recommendations was a call for new entrants in the Trinidad and Tobago telecommunications sector, especially for operators offering fourth generation (4G) broadband mobile access.
