Caricom’s ‘dance’ on Trump’s Haiti ‘swipe’*

IT’S traditional for new heads of national, regional and international organisations and agencies to inject optimism and promises of change when they assume their positions.
In the case of our Caribbean Community there is the tradition of a rotating six-month chairmanship, taken up as of this week by Haiti’s president Jovenel Moise, who has offered a New Year’s message that may prove more than a surprise to some Caricom watchers.
And it is reasonable to assume that Mr Moise and long-serving Caricom Secretary General Irwin LaRocque would have exchanged views on a range of matters of immediate as well as long-term interest to Haiti and other Caricom member states.
