Fix those funny figures*


Last month, it was encouraging to see a prompt response from the Ministry of Education on the matter of the payment of outstanding subventions to 13 private secondary schools.
However, while the ministry continues to pay $1,200 per term for each pupil assigned to selected private secondary schools, the reality is the instructional cost per pupil is about $3,600 to $5,000, depending on the school.
The present figure needs to be reviewed, and the ministry should consider making the increase retroactive to a mutually acceptable date. The ­Association of Private Secondary School Principals may be able to assist in this regard.
