It is said you know you’re getting old when kidnappers are no longer interested in you and, if the bank is held up and it is not even a Dog Day Afternoon, you are likely to be the first person the robbers release. Worse, your knees buckle and your belt won’t, your back goes out more than you do and your idea of weight-lifting is standing up. Worst of all, you wonder how you could be over the hill when you don’t even remember being on top of it.
In my case it is none of the above. I know I am getting old because for the first time in my many years on Planet Earth, I agree with Sat Maharaj, the Secretary-General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha Association (SDMS). This takes a lot of doing. In my columns and Facebook posts I have often referred to Sat as a “dhoti” old man mainly because of his views on child marriage.
