Fake oil matter goes to DPP*

The board of Petrotrin has referred the “fake oil” matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, according to Energy Minister Franklin Khan.
In response to an urgent question from Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal on the fake oil scandal in the House of Representatives in Port of Spain yesterday, Khan said this was done in November 2017.
Asked by Moonilal what attempts had been made to follow the “real money” and return it to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, Khan said neither the Minister of Energy nor the board of Petrotrin had the authority to follow the money.
“We did what the board felt was proper— which was to refer the issue to the DPP for advice,” he said.
