Govt spends US$17.4m on new ferry*

The purchase price of the new ferry is US$17.4 million (approximately $122 million), Finance Minister Colm Imbert said yesterday.
Imbert gave comparative figures which appeared to suggest the boat was secured at a relatively bargain price. Imbert pointed out in 2006, the government bought the T&T Express, which at the time was ten years old, for US$20 million ($140 million). He said in 2007, the government purchased the T&T Spirit for US$60 million ($420 million). At the time, the vessel was three years old, Imbert said.
