Attorney Thalia Francis-Brooks may have acted irresponsibly when she announced convicted fraudster Dillian Johnson had been granted asylum in the United Kingdom.
This is according to Senior Counsel Israel Khan, who told the Express yesterday that Francis-Brooks had brought the legal profession into disrepute.
Francis-Brooks announced during a news conference on Thursday that Johnson, who fled to the UK some two weeks ago, had applied for and been granted asylum by the UK government.
She could not provide any official documentation as evidence of her claims, and British High Commissioner Tim Stew said in a statement yesterday: “The British High Commission in Port of Spain has seen claims made by Attorney Thalia Francis-Brooks on 11 January 2018. It is unclear where this attorney is obtaining her information, but it is obviously not from the UK authorities.”
