Taxi driver held for raping passenger who escaped from trunk

A Freeport taxi-driver has been arrested for abducting and raping a 32-year-old passenger, who saved herself after escaping the trunk of the man's vehicle.

The woman said she got into the Nissan B14, occupied by the driver and one other passenger, at St. Mary's Junction, Freeport to go to her place of work around 8:10a.m. on Thursday.

After dropping off the other passenger, the taxi driver allegedly took the woman to a bushy area in the vicinity of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, where he raped her.

The man then drove to another bushy area in Preysal, where he allegedly assaulted the victim again. The driver then tied the woman up, bound her mouth and placed her in the trunk of his vehicle.

The woman untied herself, jump out of the trunk around 11:00a.m. and found help.

She was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where she was medically examined.

The taxi driver was arrested at around 11:30pm, in the Freeport district.

In a statement today, police advised women and children to be vigilant and cautious about the persons to with whom they travel - both legitimate operators of taxis and PH drivers.
