Red Force bats struggle against Volcanoes*

UNDER PRESSURE

ST GEORGE’S

THE Trinidad and Tobago Red Force continued to struggle in the back end of the season, slipping to 51 for four at stumps yesterday in reply to the Windward Islands Volcanoes’ 366 all out on the second day of their ninth-round Regional Four-Day tournament match at Grenada National Stadium.
Kavem Hodge’s second first-class century put the hosts on top before Delorn Johnson, Sherman Lewis and Shane Shillingford struck with the ball late in the day to leave the visitors four wickets down and still 315 runs behind.
Continuing from an overnight position of 270 for four, the Volcanoes were rocked by left-arm pacer Daniel St Clair who took wickets off consecutive balls in the second over of the day’s play.
First, overnight batsman Kyle Mayers, who started the day on 73, added just one run before he was caught by Bryan Charles.
Mayers was quickly followed by Dennis Smith who was caught by Yannic Cariah for a first-ball “duck.”
