Are there consequences if Dr Farrell’s advice is ignored?*

In the wake of last week’s resignation of Dr Terrence Farrell as the chairman of the Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB) , there is a point of view that the economist and former deputy Governor of the Central Bank was politically naive in that he did not realise that if the current People’s National Movement (PNM) administration had taken his advice, it would suffer political consequences at the 2020 general election.
This line of argument suggests that Dr Farrell’s advice would impose great hardship on T&T’s lower and middle-income households, which would make Dr Rowley and his 2020 team politically ugly.
