Poverty pretenders prevail in T&T*

Farrell at AMCHAM forum:


There are people in Trinidad and Tobago who are pretending to be poor and “masquerading poverty” and accessing social services like food cards, economist and former chairman of the Economic Development Advisory Board Dr Terrence Farrell has said.
“Our politicians and our public servants have to be able to discern real need and real vulnerability from the rent-seeking behaviour of this picaroon society,” Farrell urged yesterday.
He said while the Government had a social obligation to protect those who are poor, in the face of the economic challenges these persons must be clearly identified.
