Potential for abuse at TTRA*

Contrary to what the nation has been told, the terms and conditions of public servants who move over to the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority (TTRA), under legislation as currently proposed, may not be the same, attorney-at-law Claude Denbow SC said Wednesday in Couva.

Government has been promising Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) and Customs & Excise Division workers who transfer to the TTRA terms “no less favourable than they currently enjoy”. The Finance Ministry reiterated the promise in a press release on Wednesday. However, the TTRA as currently proposed will function like any other state-owned enterprise where the politician of the day will have control, Denbow told Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce members at their Camden Road headquarters.
