Construction sector nightmares*


The Prime Minister wants to re-establish a ministerial committee on the construction industry.

Contractors complain that the government owes them around $4 billion. That's approaching half the industry's total annual output. Not profits – that's total production output.

Dr Rowley says some contractors have faked-up claims or inflated costs. He says: “The taxpayer was taken advantage of at every turn.”

Which would be the fault of incompetence—or worse—in the public procurement system. Going right back.
