“No scientific theory can claim to be truly explanatory, if it confines itself to the ‘how’ questions, and does not seek a systematic answer to the ‘why’ questions.”
How the Mind Works
Pinker’s work is a masterpiece which I have been trying to find time to finish. He takes the reader into the realm of evolutionary psychology; raises fresh questions on what really is the mind; where it comes from, how we think, and feel, and the reasons we pursue such sublime pursuits as art, music, philosophy, religion, etc.
He also deals with one of my personal concerns—the reasons why memory fails as we age. His explorations into familiar areas appear limitless, just as the mind is.
