Water leak on San Fernando Hospital's surgical ward patients affected

It happened near the nurses' station

A waterline ruptured at the San Fernando General Hospital on Sunday causing the surgical ward to temporarily shut-down.

The rupture occurred early on Sunday at the Nurses Station at the General Surgical ward, ward seven.

According to an official at the San Fernando General Hospital, no one was injured.

The leak was the result of a collapsed drain pipe in the air conditioning system. Engineering and Maintenance teams were dispatched to identify and remedy the problem.

In the release from South West Regional Health Authority on Sunday afternoon, it was disclosed that the Nurses Station has been temporarily relocated.

Patients and theatre services were not affected, and there were no rescheduling of surgeries.

Further investigations will be conducted to ensure that this does not occur in the future, the release stated.
