THE SANGRE Grande man who was shot in his bed on Tuesday morning, was the father of four.
Garth Sansand, 28, of Machack Street, Foster Road, was shot in the head and died at hospital.
His 17-year-old girlfriend told police they were asleep in his one room apartment when she was awakened by explosions at around 1.30 a.m. Tuesday.
Moments later, the girl, who is from La Horquetta, felt Sansand shaking and she looked over and saw blood oozing from his head.
Police officers of the Sangre Grande CID responded and paramedics took Sansand to the Sangre Grande Hospital where he died at around 4.30 a.m.
The killer came through an open door of the small single storey dwelling, police were told. Sansand had four children all under the age of eight.
The teenager gave a statement to police on the incident and her cause has been handed over to officers of the child Protection Unit, who want to know how she ended up at the house.
And because of what she witnessed, the teenager is also getting assistance from the Victims Support Unit.
Police are investigating information that Sansand was involved in a fight at a bar earlier in the month.
