State of emergency in Jamaica—again*

On Thursday last week, Jamaica's governor general Sir Patrick Allen led his country's annual National Leadership Prayer breakfast. He called for “bold faith, bold action, and fervent prayers.”

Jamaica needs more than prayers. From six that morning, there was a police and army lockdown in the island's tourism capital, Montego Bay, with a state of emergency proclaimed that day for the surrounding parish of St James.

Shades of Kamla Persad-Bissessar's 2011 effort? Yes and no.
