Closing the barn door a little too late*

Last week Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi laid the new Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill in the House of Representatives. In so doing he declared that the bill would significantly strengthen this country’s ability to combat the scourge of terrorism. He may well be right but the fact cannot be ignored that this bill, which is not expected to come up for a vote until March, is aimed at a threat which has, by now, metamorphosed into something entirely different.
In laying the bill the AG stated that it contained comprehensive measures which include criminalisation of travel for the purpose of committing terrorist acts and deeming these people foreign terrorist fighters,
