FIVE men are expected to appear before the Princes Town Magistrates' Court on Monday charged with stealing 18,000 layers worth approximately $2.5 million.
The twenty loads of chickens which were transported out of the business place between October and December last year were birds which had not yet laid eggs.
These would fetch a higher price of $150 as compared to birds which have already laid eggs, which would usually cost about $45, the Express was told.
The men were held following months of investigations by the police, the praedial larceny squad and officers from the security firm that guarded the premises of the business place from which the birds were stolen.
The men who are between the ages 25 to 35 years were arrested last Friday. Two were held at the business place.
