COVEY, CONFUCIUS AND FLOW*


In life, as in the choice of internet and cable providers, the conventional wisdom is that you should go with the flow. The famous Chinese Philosopher, Zhuang Zhou, said in the 4th Century BC, long before Wi-Fi and Television were invented, “Flow with whatever is happening and let your mind be free.” So, on that basis, I should stick to the company with which I have been carrying on a virtually one-sided relationship since I returned to Trinidad in 2013. Another philosopher, also Chinese, Lao Tzu, advised, “Those who flow as life flows know they need no other force.” In other words, “Go with the flow.” Then I checked Confucius whose concept of “wu-wei” sounds so similar to the internet and smart phone technology of the Chinese company “Huawei” (pronounced “wah-wee”) that I was not surprised when he, too, advocated flow.
