Laventille gets $4.5m swimming pool.*

breaking ground: Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez, from left, Housing Minister Randall Mitchell, Sport Minister Darryl Smith, Laventille East/Morvant MP Adrian Leonce and Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds turn the sod for the Laventille Swimming Pool Facility in Sogren Trace, Laventille, yesterday.

Laventille West Member of Parliament Fitzgerald Hinds says $4.5 million will be spent to construct a community swimming pool in Sogren Trace, Laventille, for recreation.
Hinds, who is also Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs, said he had “vowed” to construct a pool after tragedy befell two young boys in 2000—Kevin Sylvester and Jarelle Morris—who drowned in a water tank.
Hinds was speaking yesterday at the official sod-turning ceremony for the Laventille Swimming Pool Facility in Sogren Trace, Laventille. It is located a stone’s throw from Desperadoes Panyard Theatre in Desperlie Crescent, and is expected to be completed by August.
