How history reaches tabloid scripting*


SO T&T got itself a writer to cover the history beat.

Until she showed up, virtual pen and notepad in hand, it wasn't clear how “history” qualified as a journalistic “beat”. It took the daring and the doing of Bridget Brereton to bring the possibilities home to readers and editors.

Just last week, T&T was reminded how long The Catholic News has been in publication. Under 1970s editors Fr Tiernan and Fr Nicholson, the paper itself made political news. Their headlines and stories served as a build-up to editorship by Owen Baptiste, former leading figure of the Express and, before that, the Daily Mirror.
