An assault on the land*

THE land that was Trestrail Lands (now a Housing Development Corporation housing estate) was purchased by Sir John Cleaver in 1872 from the British Crown when Trinidad was still teeming with wildlife. Clifford Trestrail subsequently bought a parcel of land in D’Abadie from Cleaver. He developed half into a horse farm, slowly clearing one pasture each year, importing the Pangola grass and Lajanay trees from India for shade while keeping the other half in forest, protecting the wildlife.
