Hillview College took an early lead in the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Premiership Division but only 13 points separate them from second place Naparima College heading into the Carnival break this week.

Defending champions Hillview had to battle for full points against Naps on Tuesday, defending a small total of 99 to pull off a tense three-run win over the 2015 champions.

Hillview, who have strengthened their ranks with the addition of Windies Under-19 World Cup player Kirstan Kallicharan, lead the eight-team standings with 53 points with Naps back in second place on 40 and 2016 winners Fatima College in third on 37.
