No traditional mas at Jouvert*

No Jab Jab, Fancy Indian, Sailor Mas or Dame Lorraine—traditional Jouvert characters—were seen in San Fernando celebrations on Monday.

And an appeal was made by veteran masman Val Ramsingh to keep the tradition of Jouvert alive.

Ramsingh's band, De Blue Boyz, was the only band registered in the traditional band competition. Three individuals also competed for the titles of Jouvert King and Queen.

San Fernando deputy mayor Vidya Mungal-Bissessar declared Jouvert opened at 5.35 a.m. to a scant audience.
