Poor turnout for downtown ole mas*

THE Pierre family has done it again. Ronaldo Pierre and Lynelle Pierre are the King and Queen of Jouvert 2018.

A considerably small turnout of spectators experienced the ole mas competition that heralded the start of the Merry Monarch's reign at South Quay in Port of Spain yesterday, with a virtually empty Lord Kitchener Stands and a small group of spectators behind the barricade facing the stands.

The lacklustre turnout came days after acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams held a press conference to update the country on a terrorist threat to attack Carnival 2018. Although Williams encouraged citizens to participate in Carnival, the poor turnout was a reflection of the negative climate the country is facing since the alleged threat to disrupt Carnival.
