Bad info in battle of the racial ideologues*

To pick just two of his typically misleading claims, he writes that, “In the 19th century, Trinidad saw the first massive giveaway of lands and bonuses to the Indians in lieu of their return passage to India.” But over the entire period of indentureship, from 1845 to 1917, about 147,000 Indian labourers came to Trinidad and, between 1869 and 1889, approximately just under 5,000 grants of land were given to them in lieu of return passage to India. That works out to about three per cent of Indo-Trinidadians who got land—hardly a “massive giveaway”.
