Young says farewell
He was one of the banking industry's stalwarts, so when Richard Peter Young retired recently, his farewell celebration had to be a grand affair. The who's who of T&T business came out for Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago's gala cocktail affair at the Hilton Trinidad, St Ann's last Tuesday in honour of Young's 17-year stint as managing director.
Several longstanding clients including Jimmy Aboud and his son Gregory, Helen Bhagwansingh, One Caribbean Media chief executive Dawn Thomas and Tourism Minister Stephen Cadiz, as well as business association heads and energy and finance executives all showed up to salute the man under whom the bank's assets grew in excess of 200 per cent, from $7.1 billion in 2001 to $17 billion in 2011.
Scotiabank's net income increased by 257 per cent from $152.4 million to $544.3 million as well.
