The People's Partnership government has identified several environmental friendly industries that can replace the aluminum smelter at the Union Industrial Estate, La Brea.
Ernesto Kesar Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) coordinator for the Point Fortin and La Brea constituencies yesterday said: "The Minister of Energy and the Minister of Labour have already identified small, medium and light industries that will go on the Union Industrial Estate and negotiations are currently going on at the ministerial level."
He said on the campaign trail then that the smelter would be stopped.
Member of Parliament for La Brea Fitzgerald Jeffrey said last week that the the smelter should be built to the benefit of the people of the area.
Kesar said Jeffrey contradicted himself about what he wanted for the people of La Brea.
He said Jeffrey should also remember that there was an outstanding Court of Appeal judgment on the High Court injunction that stopped the construction of the smelter.
