After 13 years as general manager of the Hilton Trinidad, Ali Khan has retired, effective August 31.

There was speculation about Khan's tenure at the Hilton in recent weeks and even rumours that he was fired as the general manager. He dismissed these rumours recently.

A statement from Hilton Worldwide dated October 4, which Khan posted on his Facebook account, said: "We can confirm that Ali Khan has retired as general manager of Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre effective August 31, 2012.

"We would like to thank Ali for his hard work and dedication during his 13 years in Trinidad as well as his more than 40 years of service at a number of hotels under the Hilton Hotels and Resorts brand. Ali has been a valuable member of both our organisation and the community and we wish him the best."

The statement said that in lieu of a retirement reception for Khan, Hilton has donated the funds to Khan's charity of choice, Living Waters.

The company said Leroy Browne, director of operations at Hilton Barbados, has been appointed as acting general manager of Hilton Trinidad.

It said a formal announcement about a new general manager will be made in due course.

Khan, who has migrated to the US state of Maryland, has set up a consultancy business.
