ToolsJFK's nephew for Hyatt conferenceThe American Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 16th annual two-day Health, Safety, Security and Environment Conference and Exhibition today and tomorrow at the Hyatt Regency (Trinidad), Port of Spain. The featured speaker will be US-based HSSE expert Robert Kennedy Jr. The son of former US attorney general Robert Kennedy and nephew of former US president John F Kennedy, he is regarded as an environmental issues expert. His topic will be based on the US experience, entitled "Creating a Green Economy: A Vision for Economic Revitalisation and National Wealth". He will examine the relationship between the environment and sustainable development that has been established in the United States, and the steps that country has taken to sensitise people about the link between the two. Speaking about the conference during a recent interview AmCham president Hugh Howard said: "This has been an initiative taken by AmCham in 1996 because we observed many accidents taking place onthe roads and in the workplace." Howard said AmCham took the initiative to address HSSE standards in Trinidad and Tobago years before the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act came into being in 2000 and 2004 respectively. |
