Kiss raises snack cakes prices

By —CR

Local manufacturer Kiss Baking Company has increased the price of its snack cake products.

Baked snacks like Kiss goodie, cupcake and iced cupcake all went up in price.

The price increases took effect on Monday and apply to retail outlets, supermarkets and shops where the cakes are sold.

A plain Kiss cake which contains two cakes per packet now costs $3, up from $2.50 while the company's iced cupcakes moved up from $3 to $3.50 per pack at retail outlets.

Lisa Morales, business unit head, Cakes Division at Kiss, told the Express yesterday there was a 50-cent increase on a number of its snack cake products.

"We haven't had a price increase since 2008 and like everywhere else, we are faced with higher raw material costs like cocoa and oils as well as higher labour costs. We held out for as long as we could," Morales said.

In July 2011, the Chaguanas-based baking company increased prices on its bread products.

A pack of Kiss sliced white bread increased by 75 cents then to $11.50 while its wheat bread product moved from $11.50 to $12.50 per pack.

The company said then it was forced to raise prices because of higher raw material and operational costs.
