Regional executive attends T&T hotel association events
Highlighting the importance of individual National Hotel Associations (NHAs) and membership in the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), George W deMercado, director of membership development for CHTA, participated in a recent meeting of the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association (TH&AT) as well as the annual general meeting and tradeshow for the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurant and Tourism Association (TRHTA).
DeMercado spoke to the general membership of TH&AT at their meeting at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort. He discussed creating an effective hotel association with a membership comprised of all stakeholders in the hotel and tourism industries. He also highlighted the value of membership in CHTA for those who are not yet members.
At the TRHTA AGM, held at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre, members of the association hosted a tradeshow of goods, services and products available for the Trinidad hotel community. Concurrently, the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI) held a job fair where hotels needing staff networked and interviewed high school and university graduates who were seeking employment. DeMercado addressed the membership of TRHTA on the key points of membership in the local association and CHTA.
“Both meetings in Trinidad and Tobago provided me with the opportunity to interact with the members of the local hotel associations while updating them on the value of membership in the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association,” said deMercado. “My goal is for all tourism partners in Trinidad and Tobago to understand the importance of their local association as it acts in partnership with CHTA on their behalf,” he added.
