ToolsSando business head praises CarmonaPRESIDENT Anthony Carmona appears to be the man to pull the country up from its downward slide, San Fernando Business Association president Daphne Bartlett said yesterday. Bartlett said the President's inaugural speech touched every issue affecting the country. "It was a pleasure being at the function on (Monday) and to witness such an important speech made by the head of our country. It is a speech that was profound and really addressed the problems facing the country at this time, with an intent to solve the problem which is an important thing. He was not just giving us lip service," she said. Bartlett said she expected Carmona to make a difference in the impoverished areas of Trinidad and Tobago. "One of the greatest things he spoke about is his intention to reform these young men who obviously are troubled guys. His Excellency has worked with these so-called criminals over the years and he knows a lot more about them than we know," she said. Carmona understands that these young criminals were hurt themselves, she said. Bartlett said she was pleased to learn that Carmona would be an active President. "He has said that he (plans to have) meetings with the head of the government, the Prime Minister, and I am sure judging from his speech he would be addressing pertinent questions to her and find solutions to the problem," she said. Bartlett said the San Fernando Business Association was ready to work with the new President to improve the standard of living in Trinidad and Tobago. "I get the impression that he is going to pull us up when we're falling down," she said. |
